Warm-Up game: Day 2, Review: Indian bowlers dominate despite Haseeb Hameed’s century

India is currently up against select County XI in a warm-up game in Durham. The game has been set so that the Indian side can have a better idea of conditions before entering into the high-profile five-match Test series against England. The warm-up game is all set for three days and as day two ended, it was found that Indian bowlers maintained their dominance.

Young English opener Haseeb Hameed made his Test recall a great moment by hitting a classy ton despite Umesh Yadav’s troublesome deliveries. Yadav was instrumental in bowling the County XI for 220 on the second day of the warm-up game. Hameed marked his return into the England squad after almost five years and maintained his defensive style of play as he ended with a knock of 112 off 246 balls.

Talking about the Indian side, Umesh Yadav turned out to be a standout bowler as he looked better with his pace and skills. He clinched three wickets by conceding 22 runs in his 15 overs. Another pace, Mohammed Siraj also impressed people with his efforts and ended the day by scalping two wickets, conceding 32 runs in 13 overs. The highlight delivery in his spell came up when he dismissed Washington Sundar, who is playing from the county side. It was a short ball from the pacer that flew off Sundar’s gloves for an easy catch in the slip area.

Haseeb Hameed unfolded the best game in front of Jadeja

Jasprit Bumrah didn’t remain impressive but certainly didn’t give away loose deliveries. With County XI reeling at 56/4, Lyndon James came in as support of Hameed by chipping in 27 runs. Hameed played best in front of Ravindra Jadeja (15-3-55-1), who impressed largely with the bat on day one of the warm-up game. While Jadeja smashed 75, KL Rahul turned up the excitement by bringing a classy ton to the table.

Brief Scores: India scored 311 runs in 1st innings. County XI got wrapped up on 220 runs in 82.3 overs where Hameed was the brightest spot in their batting lineup. Umesh Yadav (3/27) and Mohammed Siraj (2/32) dominated the bowling section from the Indian setup.
