Vinay Kumar ends Karnataka stint, moves to Puducherry

Indian pacer Vinay Kumar has brought a storied stint with Karnataka to an end. The veteran 35-year bowler has decided to join Puducherry where his experience will undoubtedly be valuable. Kumar made his debut for Karnataka during the 2004-05 domestic season.

After being given an opportunity, Kumar has turned out to be a vital cog in the wheel during a successful period for Karnataka. He has picked up a staggering 459 first-class wickets, which is the most by an Indian pacer. He averages 23.53 will the ball, with 22 5-wicket hauls to his name. Kumar has also been a handy contributor with the bat, with 3025 runs at an average of 21.45 with 2 centuries.

Vinay Kumar was Karnataka’s talisman as they finished a historic treble during the 2013-14 and the 2014-15 seasons. He led the side as they swept the Ranji Trophy, Vijay Hazare Trophy and the Irani Cup for two successive seasons.

His consistent performances on the domestic circuit led to him being selected for the Indian national team. Kumar has played 31 ODIs for India, picking up 38 wickets. He also played 9 T20Is, with 10 wickets to his name. He was also given an opportunity in the longest format, having played the only Test of his career against Australia at Perth in 2012.

Kumar had a disappointing last Ranji season with Karnataka compared to his own usual high standards. He only managed to pick up 14 wickets, though he was Karnataka’s fifth-highest scorer with the bat. He was also replaced by Manish Pandey as the skipper of the side.

With his move to Puducherry, Kumar will look to get over the disappointment of the previous season. He will also aim to begin a new chapter in an already historic career.
