Tillakaratne Dilshan’s epic century seals the game against Australia Legends

On the back of an excellent hundred from Tillakaratne Dilshan, Sri Lanka Legends registered a thumping victory over Australia Legends in their first match of the 2022 Road Safety World Series played at the Green Park, Kanpur on September 11 (Sunday).

Talking about the match, Sri Lanka Legends won the toss and opted bat first. Their openers Dilshan and Dilshan Munaweera started cautiously but once they got their eyes in, none of the Australia bowlers were able to stop them.

Both Dilshan and Munaweera took on the Australian bowling line-up and reached the 100-run mark in the first ten overs. The onslaught did not stop as Dilshan completed his hundred before getting out in the 19th over of the match. The right-handed batter stroked 107 runs in just 56 balls and smoked 14 fours and four sixes before being scalped by veteran pacer Brett Lee.

Dilshan was then replaced by another senior batter Upul Tharanga, but his partner Munaweera was playing a great knock on the other end as Tharanga ensured that he gets most of the strike in the last seven deliveries. Sri Lanka Legends crossed the 200-run mark handsomely in the end with Munaweera remaining unbeaten on 95 runs as he smashed 10 fours and two sixes in 63 deliveries.

Team Australia gave a tough fight to Sri Lanka Legends

Chasing a total of 219 runs, Australia Legends gave a solid reply to their opponents as openers Cameron White and skipper Shane Watson took on the Sri Lankan bowling line-up. The Australian opening duo stitched a fifty-run partnership but Chaturanga de Silva broke the partnership as he got the big wicket of Watson.

The batting side then faced two more quick jolts as team Sri Lanka took control of the match. Batters Callum Ferguson and Ben Dunk tried to revive their team’s innings, but it was too much to ask from them as they also fell down in quick succession. Nathan Reardon also played well for his team but could not ensure a victory for his team as Sri Lanka Legends win their first match of the competition by 38 runs.
