Middlesex website condemns umpires after bearing 2-run DLS defeat in T20 Blast

The match between Middlesex and Gloucestershire at Radlett in T20 Blast saw some indifferent occurrence as the former suffered a two-run defeat by the DLS system. The match got marred bad light where Eoin Morgan and company had set a respectable target of 180 runs for the opponents. However, after 13 overs, the umpired started discussion owing to bad light and approached Morgan to talk on the matter.

After the 13th over by leg-spinner Luke Hollman, the hosts had to continue for four more overs in the fading light and they were in the top position till the 17th over. They were ahead even through the DLS system but sixes from Ryan Higgins and Ian Cockbain in the Steven Finn’s over pushed Gloucestershire in top position. It was only then that the rains took over and the match had to be called off.

In the same light where Middlesex saw a defeat by two runs owing to the DLS system, their website had hit out at umpires for taking abrupt decisions. They even criticized the fact that skipper Morgan was told after the 12th over only that they can’t utilize their pacers anymore owing to fading lights.

“In slightly surreal and almost farcical circumstances at Radlett last night, Middlesex can quite rightly feel frustrated at some of the decision making by the match officials, which played a large part in the result going against them last night.”

“The umpires informed Middlesex skipper Eoin Morgan at the end of the twelfth over of the visitors reply over that he could no longer utilize his pace bowlers anymore, given the light conditions,” the article added. “At this stage, Gloucestershire were ahead of the DLS, and had the game been called early, the visitors would have walked off as the winners,” read a match preview of Middlesex’s website in build-up to their next match against Glamorgan.

Skipper Morgan even displayed his frustration over the light situation but stood fine with the decision made by umpires.
