Laureus Awards: Cricketing fraternity congratulates Sachin after his win

In a memorable moment for cricketing fans around the globe, Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar won the ‘Sporting Moment 2000-2020’ Award at the 2020 Laureus Awards held in Berlin, Germany. The moment was titled ‘Carried on the Shoulders of a Nation’ and was among the five contenders for the greatest sporting moment from the year 2000 to 2020. It celebrated Team India’s glorious 2011 ICC World Cup triumph at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

The victory was of great significance for the whole nation as well as Sachin. After years of hard work, Sachin finally laid his hands on the World Cup trophy in his sixth attempt. After the win, the whole Indian team paraded Sachin around the stadium in a moment which has been etched in sporting history forever.

After the victory, Sachin delivered an incredible speech, paying tribute to athletes all around the globe for inspiring generations to come. He said:

“Today sitting in this room with so many great athletes, some of them did not have everything but they made the best of everything they had. They went on to become champion athletes. I thank them for inspiring youngsters to pick a sport of their choice and chase their dreams. Today, I feel this trophy belongs to all of us for having inspired youngsters, it’s not just about me.”
