The T20 World Cup is all set to take place in the UAE and will kick off its journey on October 17 with the group stage matches. India will flag off its journey in the showpiece event with a match against their arch-rivals Pakistan on October 24. Talking in the same sequence, former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir added that at the current moment, India is far more superior to Pakistan.
Due to India’s current strength, Babar Azam and the company will be under pressure while facing Virat Kohli’s men. However, Gambhir quickly added that no team should be taken for granted in the high-profile tournament and even teams like Afghanistan can create huge upsets.
“Expectations are going to be really high from Pakistan as well, and at the moment, if you see, India is far more superior to Pakistan. Yes, in a T20 format, anyone can beat anyone because it is a very individual kind of format, and we should not take any team for granted. For example, you should not take Afghanistan for granted. People like Rashid Khan can create upsets. It’s the same with Pakistan. But, yes, there will be pressure on Pakistan,” said Gambhir while speaking on Star Sports show Game Plan.
Group 1 is the group of death: Gautam Gambhir
Talking about the Groups, India is locked in group two alongside Pakistan, New Zealand, Afghanistan, and two qualifiers. On the other hand, Group one has the likes of England, Australia, West Indies, and South Africa. In the same light, Gambhir explained why group one is the actual group of death as all the four members are no less than the other.
“Group 1 is the group of death, and that’s actually the real group. You’ve got four teams locked in and playing what, on day one of the T20 World Cup, that’s going to be a very exciting Saturday,” added Gambhir.
West Indies are the defending Champions and it will be a thing to see if they will be able to retain their title or any other team bags the ultimate glory.
