If Indian men’s cricket has a certain Virat Kohli, then its counterpart has Smriti Mandhana. These two are undoubtedly the most popular players off the field. Incidentally, they share the same jersey number too. Slowly and steadily, women’s cricket in India is gaining a lot of popularity and a lot of new followers.
Apart from being a classy player, Mandhana is also the most followed member of the current Indian women’s team when it comes to social media. She has over four million followers and keeps fans posted with her training, funny videos related to the Indian team, and also about her family.
Of late, the women’s team has shot into the limelight by playing brilliant cricket. Currently, the team is in England and finished their one-off Test. The Women in Blue gave a tough competition and managed to pull off a draw in the lone Test. The match was viewed by a lot of fans.
Recently the southpaw was asked quite a few questions relating to her game and teammates. One of the interesting questions posed at her was what record she would wish to have by the end of her career.
“Winning the most number of World Cups, hopefully,” Mandhana told in a recent interview by ESPNCricinfo.
Smriti Mandhana reveals the messiest teammate
For any player, the time spent on and off the field results in quite a few close friendships and bonding. Mandhana is also close with a lot of players the likes of Jemimah Rodrigues, Harleen Deol, Radha Yadav, and Harmanpreet Kaur. When she quizzed to name the messiest teammate, the 24-year-old named Kaur and herself too.
“I’d say me. If I take anyone else’s name, people are going to get back at me. But I think Harman and I have good competition at this. But both of us have gotten better. We have also spoken about keeping our rooms clean.”
Mandhana and Co. will soon be seen in action starting June 27 as they will battle it out in a three-match ODI series against England.
