Rohit Sharma opens up on missing the 2011 WC squad

Dinesh Karthik is currently doing his commentary duties during India’s tour to England. His new style in the field and funny comments in between have surely won the hearts of many fans. While being in the UK, Karthik is making the best use of the time and connecting with several cricketers to talk about their lesser talked aspects of life.

It was only a few days back that Karthik connected with Virat Kohli and brought up several aspects on the table. In the recent turn of events, Karthik had a chat with India’s ace batsman Rohit Sharma. During the casual chat, Karthik pushed Rohit to open up on several moments of his career where the biggest question turned to be missing on the squad of the 2011 World Cup that was won by India.

India went on to win the 2011 World Cup under the captaincy of MS Dhoni and it is one of the golden moments in the history of Indian cricket. However, Sharma added that in a way that setback helped him understand his game better. He didn’t have a good run before that tournament and a blow of this intensity made him work on his career more than before.

Rohit Sharma opens up on Dinesh Karthik’s question on 2011 WC

DK: Does missing 2011 WC remain the biggest body blow of your career?

“I was so desperate to get into the team and do well and I know the sort of team we had that time, we had the best chance of winning the WC, so I wanted to be a part of that WC and if I get an opportunity, try and make a difference. Down the line, I want to blame myself and not anyone. Maybe I didn’t have a great run before the tournament and that kind of setback was needed to improve and understand my game better. In a way, it did good to me, I came back as a different person altogether. I sort of completely changed everything – especially the mindset and technical aspect of the game after that,” said Rohit.
