IPL 2019: Big blow for RCB as Dale Steyn ruled out for the remainder of the tournament

Retired IPL

South African pacer Dale Steyn has been ruled out of the remainder of IPL 2019 due to a shoulder injury. The legendary pacer was signed mid-season by Royal Challengers Bangalore as the injury replacement for Australian all-rounder Nathan Coulter-Nile.

Steyn only played a couple of games for RCB, but his presence had a positive impact on the team as they went on to win both of those matches. He picked up 4 wickets in the two games but missed out RCB’s last game against Kings XI Punjab which they won by 17 runs.

It has now been revealed that Steyn’s injury is serious in nature which will lead to him missing Bangalore’s final three matches of the group stage.

A statement released by RCB on Steyn’s injury read:

“Dale Steyn has been prescribed with ample rest due to inflammation in his shoulder. On account of state of his health, Dale will not be available to take part further in the ongoing season of IPL. His presence has helped the team immensely and we are very thankful for the inspiration and passion that he brought to the squad. The team will deeply miss his energy and presence around. We wish him a speedy recovery and all the luck for all future endeavours.”

Bangalore won’t be able to sign a replacement now for the injured pacer as more than half the tournament is over.

The news will also come as a big jolt to South Africa heading into the 2019 World Cup in England. The Proteas begin their World Cup campaign against hosts England on May 30 in the tournament opener. They will hope that their pace spearhead is fit and firing in their quest to seal their maiden World Cup triumph.
