Fans have witnessed some exciting contest between the willow and the red cherry in ongoing England vs India 1st Test. Electing to bat first at the Trent Bridge in Nottingham, the home team couldn’t do much and was skittled out for 183 runs. In reply, India got off to a stellar start with Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul showing remarkable resilience.
The duo added 97 runs for the first wicket as India tightened their grip over the contest even further. However, the failure of India’s middle-order brought the home team back in the hunt. Subsequently, the visitors lost four wickets inside 25 runs. Nevertheless, Rahul didn’t put his guards down and continued to score runs with the lower-order batters.
The dasher even looked all set to get the three-figure mark. However, James Anderson dismissed him for 84. The baton was then passed onto Ravindra Jadeja and he didn’t disappoint. The southpaw paced his innings to perfection and mustered a sensational half-century. Handy contributions also came in from tail-enders as India posted 278 runs on the board, earning a massive first-innings lead of 95 runs.
England made a steady start in the second innings with openers Rory Burns and Dominic Sibley being watchful against the new Dukes ball. At stumps on Day 3, England were 25/0, trailing by 70 runs. One can say that India are in a better position at the moment. However, some brilliant knocks from England’s top-order batters can change the course of the game. Not to forget, Virat Kohli’s men would be batting last in this game, and chasing anything 150 would be challenging.
