ENG vs AUS: 2nd ODI Preview – England out to avoid series defeat at home

In a three-match series, there is no time to take a back seat. England lost the first ODI by 19 runs and now face the prospect of losing an ODI series at home to their arch-rivals. The World Champions have not lost an ODI series at home since 2015 (with the exception of a one-off match against Scotland). Incidentally, they had lost to Australia on that occasion. Whether the visitors can pull it off once again or not remains to be seen.

England vs Australia: 2nd ODI – 13th September

Old Trafford, Manchester (05:30 PM IST)

The weather forecast for the second ODI is cheerful with no rain expected on the horizon. In the first ODI, the track was helpful to the pace bowlers with the new ball. With another ODI in a short duration, we may see another similar wicket until the curator dishes out something special.

Head To Head:

Key Facts To Look Out For:

Team News

England:

The English batting unit failed to combat the pace bowling attack of Australia in the initial overs of their chase. The batsmen will have to be more responsible in this match. However, personnel change seems unnecessary. The English batting lineup is still quite strong and the same playing 11 can be expected in the second ODI as well.

Australia:

Australia had to make a forced change in the first ODI. Steve Smith was ruled out due to a head injury. With Mitchell Marsh delivering a match-winning performance in the first match, Marcus Stoinis is the likely candidate to make way for Smith. If Australia remain cautious about Smith, then Stoinis will continue his presence in this team. Rest of the winning combination is likely to remain the same.
