Australia absentees from upcoming tours very realistic to miss out on T20 WC: Aaron Finch

Australia is all set to indulge in limited-overs series with West Indies followed by Bangladesh before playing the high-profile T20 World Cup this year. However, it has been noted several big names of Australia have pulled out their names from their upcoming bilateral series. In the same reference, Australia’s white-ball skipper Aaron Finch has stated clear cut that these absentees have a “very realistic” chance of being dropped from T20 WC selection.

The cricketers who have pulled out their names are David Warner, Pat Cummins, Glenn Maxwell, Jhye Richardson, Kane Richardson, Marcus Stoinis, and Daniel Sams. All these players were up in the interrupted season of IPL 2021 but have withdrawn from upcoming assignments for their nation. On the other hand, ace batsman Steve Smith is yet to recover from the elbow injury that he sustained in IPL 2021. Finch believes that absentees are surely in danger as they will not be in the form before the showpiece event.

“Yeah, very realistic (to miss out of T20 World Cup). You have to go on current form, and you pick guys who are playing well. For guys to be on this tour, to get the first opportunity to really put their hand up and take a spot is what it’s about. It’s tough to ignore really good international performances. So yeah, absolutely, there’s going to be opportunities for guys to put their hand up and take spots,” said Finch as quoted by cricket.com.au.

Aaron Finch opens up on his eye surgery

Australia is all set to fly for the Caribbean tour on June 28 which will be played between July 10-25. Finch who will be leading the side on the upcoming tours, recently also opened up his eye surgery that he underwent to sort his blurry vision. He added that he started noticing the problem during last year’s IPL but is doing fine after the surgery.

“I’m seeing them (balls) pretty good now. I’ve only been hitting them indoors on hard wickets. I think the biggest test will come in night matches, that’s when I noticed the biggest difference in my eyesight,” Finch has said.
