Arjun Tendulkar, son of legendary Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar has fetched 5 lakhs in the Mumbai T20 League auctions. He was bought by the Aakash Tigers Mumbai Western Suburb for the second edition of the tournament.

Arjun was included in the all-rounder category heading into the auctions and had a base price of 1 lakh. Arjun bowls left-arm seam and also bats down the order and has played unofficial Test matches for the Indian U-19 team.

When Arjun’s name came up in the auction, a bidding war was triggered for his services. The bid was raised to 5 lakhs, the maximum bidding amount by the North Mumbai Panthers. Charu Sharma who was hosting the auctions then gave the opportunity to the two new teams – Aakash Tigers Mumbai Western Suburb and Eagle Thane Strikers an option to exercise their Opportunity to Match (OTM) card.

The right was exercised by both the franchises and the cards were placed in a bag. MCA ad hoc committee member Unmesh Khanvilkar was then called upon to pick up a card and Aakash Tigers emerged as the lucky team whose name was selected and they procured the services of the highly-rated all-rounder.

The league will take place from May 14 to May 26 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. There will be 8 teams participating in the tournament – SoBo Supersonics, Shivaji Park Lions, Triumph Knights Mumbai North East, NaMo Bandra Blasters, North Mumbai Panthers, ARCS Andheri, Aakash Tigers and Eagle Thane Strikers.

Some big names in the Indian domestic circuit like Suryakumar Yadav, Dhawal Kulkarni, Shivam Dube, Siddhesh Lad, Prithvi Shaw, Shreyas Iyer, Aditya Tare and Sarfaraz Khan will be involved in the tournament.
